Oikos Project awarded with the Feocomercio Prize for Sustainability 2011

The Oikos Project – launched and handled in Brazil by students of the Antonio Meneghetti Faculty (AMF) at the International Center of Humanistic Art and Culture Recanto Maestro – was awarded with the Feocomercio Prize for Sustainability 2011 in the Academy/Pupils category.

The awarding ceremony took place on 31st May in São Paulo. This was the event’s second edition. The award goes to the best sustainability project achieving concrete results on the Brazilian territory. This year, there were 314 projects put in place throughout Brazil joining 7 different award categories.

The Oikos Project was launched in 2008. It has been promoting sustainability actions with the potential to transform the every-day life of the inhabitants of the Recanto Maestro region. An example of it is the awareness raising effort on separate collection of rubbish and recycling, on native tree planting, on sustainable architecture enhancement and on preservation of biodiversity. The Project’s results were presented last year at the French Economic, Social and Environmental Council. This year, the Feocomercio Sustainability Prize gathered international experts who evaluated the Brazilian projects capable of becoming an example for other countries in terms of sustainability and alignment with the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations.
